Anu Malik Returns to ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2026’ as Special Judge, Says Singing Is About Emotion, Not Just Technique
MUMBAI–Veteran music composer Anu Malik is returning to the popular singing reality show “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2026” as a special judge, emphasizing that great singing requires more than technical precision and must connect with listeners on an emotional level.
Malik, who has previously served as a judge on the long-running musical competition, will make his fourth appearance in a judging role on the show.
The 2026 season features an established panel of judges, including Shankar Mahadevan, Javed Ali, Neeti Mohan and Kumar Sanu, while actor Shreyas Talpade serves as host.
Speaking about his return, Malik said his association with the show over the years has left him with fond memories and an appreciation for the opportunities it provides to aspiring singers.
“I have been associated with Sa Re Ga Ma Pa over the years, so coming back to the show brings back some lovely memories.”
The composer said he particularly enjoys meeting young performers and witnessing their enthusiasm for music.
“It is always a joy to be around music and meet young singers who have so much passion and potential. I have always believed that singing is not just about sur and taal; it is about the emotion you bring to a song and how you make the listener feel. Every singer has their own style and their own story, and that is what makes music so beautiful.”
Malik’s comments reflect his belief that musical expression depends not only on melody and rhythm, traditionally referred to as sur and taal in Indian classical music, but also on a singer’s ability to communicate feelings through a performance.
He also praised the show’s continued role in discovering and developing emerging musical talent across India.
“It is wonderful to see a platform like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa continue to discover, nurture new talent and be Hindustan Ka Sangeetsthan. I am looking forward to being a part of this musical celebration and experiencing the talent that the next generation has to offer, especially with this season having a unique 360 degree set and more than 100 musicians and chorus adding to the beauty of the performance.”
The latest season features a 360-degree stage design and a large musical ensemble consisting of more than 100 musicians and chorus performers, providing contestants with an elaborate setting for their performances.
Malik’s return adds another experienced Bollywood music composer to a season already featuring several prominent singers and musicians.
