Shreya Ghoshal Reflects on Special Durga Puja Performance in Mumbai

Mumbai — Acclaimed playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has shared the personal significance of her performance at this year’s North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja celebrations, saying she felt a spiritual calling to sing in the presence of Goddess Durga.

Ghoshal visited the North Bombay Durga Puja pandal as the organizers celebrated the festival’s 80th year. The singer offered prayers, sought the goddess’s blessings and performed alongside her entire band.

Sharing photographs and videos from the celebrations on social media, Ghoshal said she had made a personal commitment to perform at least once in the presence of Goddess Durga this year.

Unlike previous years, her schedule allowed her to remain in Mumbai during the festivities, making the performance possible.

“I had felt a calling for this year to make sure I do one performance in Ma’s presence, and unlike every year I was very much in India, and in the city. Felt so blessed,” Ghoshal wrote.

The singer also expressed gratitude to filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and his family, who have maintained a longstanding association with the annual celebration.

“Thank you @ayan_mukerji and the whole Mukerji family for making this happen with so much love and devotion,” she added.

The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja is among Mumbai’s prominent Durga Puja celebrations and has longstanding connections to several generations of Bollywood personalities.

This year’s festivities attracted numerous actors and entertainment industry figures, including Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Jaya Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Tanishaa Mukerji, Vicky Kaushal, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Twinkle Khanna and Bipasha Basu.

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji remains actively involved in organizing the celebration, continuing a family tradition that dates back several decades.

The Durga Puja pandal was established in 1948 by his grandfather, veteran film producer Sashadhar Mukherjee, and has remained an important part of the family’s cultural and religious traditions.

For Ghoshal, this year’s appearance was more than a musical performance, bringing together her devotion, artistic expression and participation in one of Mumbai’s longstanding Durga Puja traditions. (Source: IANS)
