Cockroach Janta Party Founder Abhijeet Dipke Granted Conditional Bail After Arrest Over Delhi Rally

NEW DELHI— Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder and convener Abhijeet Dipke was granted conditional bail by a Delhi court on Saturday following his arrest in connection with the party’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally planned at Central Park in Connaught Place.

According to Delhi Police, Dipke was granted bail by the Special Executive Magistrate court after signing a peace bond.

CJP Legal Affairs Head Ratna Singh confirmed his release in a post on social media platform X, writing, “Abhijeet Dipke released.”

Dipke was detained on Friday while on his way to join the proposed protest rally in Connaught Place and was subsequently arrested.

A similar peace bond had earlier been signed by Dipke and CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka following their release after being detained ahead of an October 10 protest.

Earlier on Saturday, Singh had criticized delays in the court proceedings, questioning why the hearing, scheduled for noon, had not taken place by 3:38 p.m.

“The hearing was supposed to happen at 12 p.m. It’s 3:38 p.m. and no sign of it. If this isn’t deliberate then what is?” she wrote, calling for the release of Dipke, Das, Ranka and other detainees.

“You can’t take away people’s liberty by delaying the entire process,” she added.

The CJP had called for a ‘Tiranga Assembly’ at Central Park in Connaught Place at 5 p.m. on Friday. However, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) denied permission for the gathering.

Ahead of the proposed rally, Delhi Police served Dipke two notices informing him that Connaught Place was not a designated protest site and that the NDMC had not authorized the planned Tiranga Yatra.

According to officials, one notice was issued on behalf of the New Delhi district authorities under the Delhi Police Act. It instructed individuals not to visit Central Park while restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force.

A second notice was issued by the South West Delhi authorities, reminding Dipke that he, along with CJP co-conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, had previously been bound down following their preventive detention at the airport and subsequent appearance before a court.

The earlier legal undertaking required them to refrain from causing public disturbances for a period of one year, officials said.

Meanwhile, All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was also detained near Mandi House as police tightened security across central Delhi. She was briefly released following her detention.

The developments came amid heightened security arrangements surrounding the proposed rally in the national capital. (Source: IANS)
