Sonu Nigam Shares 19-Year-Old Photo With Asha Bhosle, Remembers Their Musical Journey

MUMBAI — Singer Sonu Nigam has shared a 19-year-old photograph of himself performing alongside legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, recalling their decades-long musical association and friendship.

The photograph, taken during a live performance in May 2007, shows Nigam and Bhosle singing together on stage. Nigam is dressed in a black T-shirt and light-colored jeans, while Bhosle is seen wearing a light-colored saree.

Nigam has frequently spoken about his admiration for Bhosle, describing her as an important influence on his musical career. The veteran singer also offered him encouragement during his early years in the entertainment industry.

The two shared a close personal bond beyond their professional collaborations.

Nigam previously recalled an incident during their 2007 tour of the United States when Bhosle was suffering from pain caused by a heel spur. Having seen his mother experience a similar condition, Nigam offered to massage Bhosle’s feet to help relieve her discomfort.

According to Nigam, Bhosle remembered the gesture and continued mentioning it to him years afterward.

Bhosle died on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92, prompting tributes from across the Indian music industry.

Following her death, Nigam shared an emotional message reflecting on her extraordinary career and lasting contributions to Indian music.

“Curtain down on one of the greatest ever crooners of all time. The last standing warrior of the pioneering era of Indian film music has called it quits today and bid her final goodbye to us all. She lived a full life, destined for extreme vicissitudes and challenges leading to exceptional greatness. She touched the lives of billions over multiple decades through her music and effervescence. An artiste who inspired us all through her zeal for riyaz till the end of her life,” he wrote.

Nigam also recalled that his association with Bhosle began in 1994, when they first met and performed together.

“Asha Ji, I will always remember the journey I have had with you from 1994, when I first met and sang with you, through our last concert with each other in Dec 2024, till our last two duets together last year, with absolute joy and pride. All I can say is chale to gaye ho par, dil abhi bhara nahin. See you on the other side,” he added.

In the days following her death, Nigam encouraged fans to celebrate Bhosle’s life and achievements rather than focus solely on their grief.

“I am sad that she is gone, but I do not want to make it about sadness. She lived a very full life and worked until the very end. Is this a life to cry for?” he said.

Over the years, Nigam and Bhosle collaborated on several Bollywood songs, including “Koi Dil Na Kisi Se Lagaye” from “Sauda” (1995), “Tere Dil Ke Paas” from “Hindustan Ki Kasam” (1999) and “Kambakth Ishq” from “Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya” (2001).

The newly shared photograph offers another glimpse into their enduring musical partnership, which continued through concerts and recordings spanning more than three decades. (Source: IANS)
