Honey Singh Summoned for Fourth Time by Maharashtra Cyber Cell Over Controversial Remarks

MUMBAI — Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh has been summoned for a fourth time by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell in connection with allegedly objectionable remarks made during a public appearance, officials said Wednesday.

The singer has been directed to appear before investigators on October 16 after failing to respond to three previous summonses.

According to a Maharashtra Cyber Cell official, the investigation was initiated following a complaint alleging that Singh made inappropriate comments during a show.

Officials said Singh had cited his presence overseas as the reason for not appearing before investigators despite repeated requests.

The Cyber Cell has warned that authorities could initiate proceedings to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against the rapper if he fails to appear again. Such a notice could be used to alert immigration authorities about his movements.

The controversy follows remarks Singh made during a concert in Delhi earlier this year, when he encouraged audience members to engage in sexual activity in cars during the winter while emphasizing the importance of using protection.

“Delhi’s cold! It’s really fun to do it in the car in this cold. Have sex in the car, in Delhi winter. Use condoms, guys, please. Play it safe,” Singh said during the performance.

The remarks drew criticism after a video clip circulated widely on social media, prompting the singer to issue a public apology and explain the circumstances behind his comments.

“A video of mine has been going viral on Instagram since morning, edited in a way that’s offended many people. I want to tell you the whole story. My intention was never to hurt, insult, or offend anyone,” Singh said in a video statement.

He explained that his comments were influenced by an earlier discussion with medical professionals about rising rates of sexually transmitted infections among young people.

“A few days prior to the incident, I had interactions with a leading gynaecologist and sexologist who shared about the rising concerns of sexually transmitted diseases among the younger generation due to unprotected sex. This conversation stayed with me. While being a guest at the show of Nanku and Karun, and seeing a large number of Gen Z in the audience, I tried to convey a message about the importance of protection in a language which they would refer to which is used in OTT they watch,” he said.

Singh maintained that his intention was to promote safe sex rather than offend audiences.

The rapper has faced criticism in the past over allegedly objectionable lyrics and comments made during public performances.

Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the complaint or any potential charges in the current investigation.

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell is awaiting Singh’s appearance on October 16 as it continues its inquiry into the allegations. (Source: IANS)
