Madhuri Dixit Shares Humorous Reason for Marrying Heart Surgeon Dr. Shriram Nene

MUMBAI — Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit recently shared a humorous explanation for her decision to marry cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Shriram Nene, joking that she chose someone who could mend the hearts of fans disappointed by her wedding.

The actress made the remark during the premiere episode of the Marathi quiz reality show Kon Honar Crorepati, where fellow actress Sonali Bendre joined her for a conversation.

Reflecting on Dixit’s marriage, Bendre recalled the disappointment among her admirers when she announced her wedding.

“When you got married… a lot of people were heartbroken,” Bendre said.

Dixit responded with a laugh, saying, “That’s why I married someone who mends hearts!”

Speaking in Marathi, the actress playfully connected her husband’s profession as a cardiovascular surgeon with the heartbreak her marriage had caused among fans.

Dixit married Nene in 1999, when she was among Bollywood’s most prominent leading actresses. Nene was practicing medicine in the United States at the time.

Following their marriage, Dixit moved to the United States, stepping away from the Indian film industry to focus on family life. The couple have two sons, Arin and Ryan.

After spending several years in the United States, Dixit returned to India and resumed her acting career.

She made her Bollywood comeback with Aaja Nachle in 2007 and subsequently appeared in films including Dedh Ishqiya, Gulaab Gang, Total Dhamaal and Kalank.

She also made a memorable appearance in the song “Ghagra” from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and expanded her work into Marathi cinema with Bucket List.

Her later projects included Maja Ma and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, reflecting her continued presence in films across different genres.

Dixit also entered the streaming entertainment space with the Netflix series The Fame Game, portraying a celebrated actress whose mysterious disappearance exposes hidden aspects of her personal and professional life.

She later took on a darker role in Mrs. Deshpande, portraying a convicted serial killer.

Despite her decades-long career and continued popularity, Dixit’s lighthearted comments about her marriage offered audiences a glimpse into her personal life and her relationship with Nene, whom she married more than 25 years ago. (Source: IANS)
