2027 ODI World Cup Ticket Demand Tops 1 Million Applications in Three Days

Dubai — Demand for tickets to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has surpassed 1 million applications less than three days after the ballot opened, reflecting strong global interest in the tournament.

More than 320,000 fans have registered for the ticket ballot, submitting applications for more than 1.1 million tickets for matches across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, the International Cricket Council said Tuesday.

The India-Pakistan clash is the most in-demand fixture so far, drawing more than 110,000 ticket applications.

India’s match against South Africa has attracted more than 92,000 applications, while more than 86,000 applications have been submitted for India’s game against Australia.

A pre-seeded Super 7 match between India and Pakistan scheduled for November 7 has received nearly 78,000 applications, making it the fourth most sought-after fixture. The November 21 final has drawn close to 69,000 applications.

ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said the early response demonstrated the scale of interest in the tournament.

“One million ticket applications in just over 48 hours of opening the ticket ballot is a demonstration of the attention, stature and affiliation for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027,” Gupta said.

He said ICC events increasingly transcend cultural and geographic boundaries and provide an opportunity to expand cricket’s global fan base.

“This is also Africa’s moment to shine as an ICC marquee men’s event is returning to the continent after two decades and brings with it the attention of 2.5 billion cricket fans across 120+ countries,” Gupta said.

The 2027 tournament will mark the return of a major ICC men’s event to Africa after a 20-year gap, with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia serving as co-hosts.

Qondisa Ngwenya, CEO of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 Local Organising Committee, said the early ticket numbers showed the strength of global demand.

“To see more than one million tickets already applied for is a major statement by global fans and shows the extraordinary appetite to be part of this tournament,” Ngwenya said.

“South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia are ready to open their doors to the world and deliver a World Cup that is memorable both on and off the field.”

The ticket ballot will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Central Africa Time on November 21, giving fans worldwide additional time to register.

With India-Pakistan already generating the highest demand, organizers said the early response offers an indication of the level of interest expected when the tournament begins across the three host countries. (Source: IANS)
