Meenakshi Seshadri Reflects on Mother-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law Portrayals in Indian Cinema
Mumbai — Veteran actress Meenakshi Seshadri says Indian cinema has often portrayed relationships between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law in a negative light.

Seshadri reflected on the theme while revisiting her 1990 film “Ghar Ho To Aisa,” in which she starred alongside Anil Kapoor and Bindu. She said her character challenged her on-screen mother-in-law through a mix of comedy, melodrama and even karate.
“The relationship between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law has often been portrayed with a negative flavor in Indian cinema,” Seshadri wrote on social media.
She added that she hopes mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law can develop relationships similar to those between mothers and daughters in real life.
Seshadri also shared a video recreating the song “January February” from “Ghar Ho To Aisa,” showing off her dance moves in a nostalgic tribute to the film.
In the movie, she played Seema Kumar, a strong-willed woman who stands up to mistreatment by her in-laws.
