Padma Lakshmi Shares Childhood Photo From 1977 Chennai Summer
Mumbai — Padma Lakshmi revisited her childhood in Chennai by sharing a family photograph taken during the summer of 1977.
The India-born television host, producer, author and model posted the image on Instagram, showing herself and several relatives sitting on her grandfather’s 1969 Ambassador car.
“Speaking of summers in Chennai — here we are in 1977 sitting on my grandfather’s 1969 Ambassador car,” Lakshmi wrote. She added that she later learned to drive the vehicle during the 1980s on the road to Mahabalipuram.
Lakshmi identified several family members in the photograph, including her aunt Banu, whom she credited with teaching her cooking and multiplication tables.
She also pointed out her mother, who had traveled from New York for her grandfather’s 60th birthday puja, as well as several cousins pictured alongside her.
Reflecting on the scene, Lakshmi recalled the heat, mosquitoes and her grandmother’s rule that the children could not play outside until the sun had begun to set.
“I can feel the mosquitoes and the hot Coromandel sun beating down on us,” she wrote.
Lakshmi was born in India and moved to the United States as a child. She later built a career in modeling and television and became widely known as the longtime host of “Top Chef.”
She is also the creator, host and executive producer of the docuseries “Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi” and has written five books. Her television work has earned her 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. (Source: IANS)
