Paul McCartney Reflects on Beatles’ First U.S. Trip During Intimate Los Angeles Show

LOS ANGELES — Paul McCartney took a nostalgic turn during a rare, intimate performance in Los Angeles, recalling The Beatles’ first trip to the United States as he kicked off a two-night run at the Fonda Theatre.

The 83-year-old music legend performed a 23-song set spanning his decades-long career, delivering a stripped-down show that echoed the early days of The Beatles playing small clubs in Liverpool, England.

“Welcome to Hollywood! We’re gonna have some fun. It’s great to be at these little gigs, I mean, it’s not that little,” McCartney told the crowd, many of whom were far younger than the era that first made him famous.

Performing in the roughly 1,200-capacity venue, McCartney reflected on the theater’s history, noting its earlier incarnation as the Hollywood Music Box Theatre before it was later renamed in honor of actor Henry Fonda.

The smaller setting stood in stark contrast to the stadiums and arenas McCartney typically fills, offering fans a rare chance to see him up close.

“It’s very lovely. It’s good to see the whites of your eyes,” he said.

While the performances coincided with the release of his latest album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, his 19th solo studio effort and first in six years, McCartney told fans they would not hear new material during the show.

“We’re still in the process of learning it. But I’m glad you love it, yeah,” he said, referring to songs from the new project, including the single Days We Left Behind.

Instead, the setlist focused heavily on his extensive catalog, featuring a string of Beatles classics such as Help, Got to Get You into My Life, Getting Better, I’ve Just Seen a Face, Love Me Do, Lady Madonna, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Get Back, and Golden Slumbers.

The performances highlighted McCartney’s enduring appeal across generations, blending nostalgia with a rare, close-up concert experience for fans. (Source: IANS)
