MUMBAI, India — Actor Jackie Shroff paid tribute to legendary tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain on his first death anniversary, remembering the iconic musician for his enduring contribution to Indian classical music.
Shroff took to his Instagram stories to share a monochrome photograph of the celebrated percussionist, writing, “Remembering… Ustad Zakir Hussain ji on his death anniversary.”
Ustad Zakir Hussain was widely regarded as one of the greatest tabla players of his generation and among the finest percussionists in the world. Over a career spanning decades, he worked across multiple musical genres and played a pivotal role in taking Indian classical music to a global audience.
His achievements were recognized internationally and at home. He received the United States National Endowment for the Arts’ National Heritage Fellowship, the highest honor awarded to traditional artists and musicians in the U.S. In India, he was conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990 and later the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, Ratna Sadsya, in 2018. He earned nine Grammy Award nominations during his career and won four, including three in 2024.
Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away on December 15, 2024, in San Francisco, California, due to complications arising from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 73.
On the work front, Jackie Shroff was recently seen in the comedy thriller Housefull 5, which features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer and Johnny Lever.
The film, a murder mystery comedy, revolves around multiple imposters claiming to be the son of a recently deceased billionaire as they compete for his fortune aboard a luxury cruise ship.
Jackie Shroff will next appear in Ahmed Khan’s upcoming comedy film Welcome To The Jungle.
