Summit: Can Family Businesses in India Compete?

The Center for Emerging Markets at Northeastern University is proud to present its fourth annual India Summit: The Future of Family Business in India, as part of the Vivek and Vandana Sharma India Initiative. Building on previous summits that explored innovation, startups, and sustainability, this year’s focus turns to Family Business in India and other emerging markets.

Recognizing the central role family enterprises play across emerging economies, the summit will bring together a diverse group of voices, including Indian family business leaders, academic experts in the field, young alumni representing next-generation leadership, overseas Indians managing family enterprises in Asia and the Middle East, and select family business leaders from other emerging markets. This gathering will provide a unique opportunity to examine the similarities and differences in family business dynamics across emerging economies, offering insights into one of the most significant drivers of economic growth in these regions.

Our three keynote speakers are as follows:
• Farhad Forbes – Co-Chairman of Forbes Marshall and Global Chair of Family Business Network International, representing one of India’s most successful family enterprises
• Jamshyd Godrej – Chairman & Managing Director of Godrej & Boyce, leading one of India’s largest and most respected family conglomerates
• John A. Davis – Faculty Director of Family Enterprise Programs at MIT Sloan and Chairman of Cambridge Family Enterprise Group, a leading voice in family business research

The summit also features prominent Indian business leaders, including Meher Pudumjee (Chairperson, Thermax Ltd) and Gaurav Dalmia (Chairman, Dalmia Group Holdings), representing both established and next-generation leadership in Indian family enterprises.
