DALLAS– A gruesome machete attack at a Dallas-area motel has left a 50-year-old Indian-origin man dead, shocking the local community and sparking outrage.
Authorities identified the victim as Chandra Nagamallaiah, who managed the motel where the fatal assault occurred. Police say the suspect, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, repeatedly struck Nagamallaiah with a machete before decapitating him.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Cobos-Martinez has been arrested and charged with capital murder. He remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail. Court records indicate that he is an undocumented immigrant.
Investigators said the confrontation began Thursday morning after Nagamallaiah instructed Cobos-Martinez not to use a broken washing machine at the motel. Witnesses told police the suspect became enraged when the manager communicated the warning through a translator rather than directly.
Video circulating on social media shows the horrifying sequence of events. Cobos-Martinez is seen chasing Nagamallaiah with a machete and continuing the attack even as the victim’s wife and son rushed to intervene. The footage shows the assailant ultimately decapitating Nagamallaiah, then kicking the victim’s head across the parking lot before placing it in a dumpster.
Police apprehended Cobos-Martinez as he attempted to flee. A motive has not yet been determined, and investigators are continuing to piece together the circumstances surrounding the crime.
“This was an act of extreme violence that has deeply shaken our community,” one Dallas police official said.
The brutality of the assault has left residents horrified, with many expressing fear and anger in the aftermath of the killing.
The investigation remains ongoing. (Source: IANS)
