Patna–A shocking act of violence in Bihar’s Samastipur district has sparked widespread public outrage after a private school teacher allegedly shot and killed a 19-year-old girl student on Monday.
The victim, Gudiya Kumari, daughter of Vinay Kumar from Ward 1 of Parsa Panchayat, was returning home from a coaching institute in Baheri block when the attack took place at Kothiyan village, under the jurisdiction of Shivajinagar police station.
Gudiya, who was preparing for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination, reportedly died on the spot after being shot by the accused, a private school teacher from Nalanda district. According to police, the man had been pressuring her for marriage — a proposal she had repeatedly rejected.
Her family alleges that the accused had issued threats in the past, prompting them to lodge a police complaint. However, they claim that no preventive action was taken. The incident is being described as the culmination of a one-sided obsession that turned deadly.
The brutal killing led to a swift and angry reaction from local residents. Enraged villagers set the private school on fire and staged a blockade on the Singhia–Baheri–Darbhanga main road, bringing traffic to a halt. Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the absconding accused and the intervention of senior police officials.
Senior police personnel, including Rosera DSP and station house officers from Shivajinagar and Baheri, reached the scene to calm the situation and assure justice.
“We have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem,” said the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Rosera range. “We are awaiting a written complaint from the victim’s family to register a formal FIR. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was driven by one-sided love. Raids are underway to apprehend the accused, who will be brought to justice soon.”
As the community grapples with the tragedy, questions are being raised about law enforcement’s failure to act on prior complaints — and how a young woman’s life ended in a senseless act of violence. (Source: IANS)
