MUMBAI– Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh took a nostalgic detour this week as he reflected on the iconic era of Mafia Mundeer, the musical collective he founded that helped shape the sound of Indian hip-hop in the early 2010s.

Taking to Instagram, Honey Singh shared a photo of himself lounging on a couch in a sharp maroon suit. The caption read:
“I don’t believe in revenge, I believe in punishment. They are two different things – Never forget that I am the founder of MAFIA MUNDEER #gloriousdays #yoyohoneysingh.”

Mafia Mundeer was Honey Singh’s brainchild—envisioned as an unstructured creative platform for collaboration. The idea was to bring together talented artists to sing, write, perform, and release music without legal bindings or formal contracts. The name itself was coined by Honey Singh and late Punjabi singer Raj Brar, who also mentored Singh in songwriting.

The collective became legendary in the Indian music scene, launching or featuring now-famous artists like Raftaar, Ikka, Lil Golu, Alfaaz, Money Aujla, J Star, Leo Grewal, and Ninja. Their tracks became youth anthems and helped propel Punjabi hip-hop into the mainstream.

In more recent updates, Honey Singh has collaborated with actress and singer Shehnaaz Gill for a promotional track for the upcoming Punjabi film Ikk Kudi. Shehnaaz posted a series of images from the shoot on Instagram, showing the duo sharing a light moment on a bench. She sported a cornrow hairstyle and a striking orange and black outfit with knee-high boots.

“@yoyohoneysingh’s humour is so desi,” she captioned the post.

Honey Singh also shared a close-up of Shehnaaz, writing:
“We made this jatti look Jamaican. Promotional song for movie Ekk Kudi @shehnaazgill.”

Ikk Kudi is directed by Amarjit Singh Saron and produced by Shehnaaz Gill herself. The film marks another milestone in Shehnaaz’s career, which took off after her breakout appearance on Bigg Boss 13. Her chemistry with the late Sidharth Shukla made them a fan-favorite duo, lovingly known as “SidNaaz.”

Shehnaaz began her career in 2015 with the music video Shiv Di Kitaab and made her acting debut in 2017 with the Punjabi film Sat Shri Akaal England. (Source: IANS)
