NEW DELHI– India is at the forefront of a transformative shift in how people experience reality, and Qualcomm Technologies envisions a future where smart glasses become as essential as smartphones—effortlessly managing daily tasks, the global chipmaker said on Monday.
At its ‘Snapdragon for India – XR Day’ event in New Delhi, Qualcomm brought together leading tech experts, developers, partners, media, and content creators to accelerate the adoption of spatial computing in India.
The event featured immersive demonstrations and practical use cases across entertainment, fitness, education, and content creation, showcasing Qualcomm’s leadership in extended reality (XR) and smart glasses technology.
Alex Katouzian, Group General Manager for Mobile, Compute & XR (MCX) at Qualcomm Technologies, highlighted that Snapdragon XR platforms have powered over 100 immersive devices worldwide, delivering top-tier experiences across mixed reality (MR), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).
During a live demonstration, Katouzian showcased a small language model (SLM) running entirely on a pair of AI-powered smart glasses—underscoring Snapdragon’s ability to run AI workloads across cloud, edge, and fully on-device environments.
As part of its broader vision, Qualcomm is collaborating with Indian companies like Lenskart to develop AI-enabled smart glasses powered by Snapdragon chipsets. These efforts mark a push to bring next-generation wearable computing to Indian consumers.
“Snapdragon platforms are designed to combine a sleek, lightweight form factor with powerful capabilities, making smart glasses both practical and intuitive for everyday use,” said Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India. “This milestone marks a new era in spatial computing for Indian users and reinforces India’s role as a key player in the global immersive tech landscape.”
Soin added that this technology aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), offering solutions that can empower frontline workers, revolutionize remote education, and deliver truly inclusive digital access.
As Qualcomm expands its focus beyond smartphones, the company remains committed to driving innovation across industries and fueling India’s leadership in spatial computing technologies. (Source: IANS)
