CHENNAI– The hype around Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming action entertainer Coolie soared even higher on Friday as the film’s second single, Monica, was officially released by the makers, sending fans and film buffs into a frenzy.
The electrifying track, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, features sizzling visuals of Pooja Hegde and Soubin Shahir. Sung by Sublahshini and Anirudh himself, with rap verses by Asal Kolaar, the song features lyrics penned by Vishnu Edavan. The foot-tapping number is already generating buzz across streaming platforms and social media.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie has made headlines for becoming the highest overseas procurement for a Tamil film to date, with distribution rights reportedly secured in over 100 countries.
Industry insiders also hint that Coolie may mark Hamsini Entertainment’s biggest international release yet, reinforcing the film’s global reach ahead of its August 14 release.
The film boasts a star-studded ensemble that includes Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan. It marks the fourth collaboration between director Lokesh Kanagaraj and composer Anirudh Ravichander, with Girish Gangadharan handling cinematography and Philomin Raj in charge of editing.
Coolie also marks a historic reunion between Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj after nearly 38 years, their last appearance together being the 1986 hit Mr. Bharath, where Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth’s father. Notably, Sathyaraj had declined earlier offers to star in Rajinikanth’s iconic films like Enthiran and Sivaji.
Marking Rajinikanth’s 171st film, Coolie is centered around gold smuggling and, according to director Lokesh Kanagaraj, will be a standalone story and not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
The release of Monica has only added to the feverish excitement as fans count down to what is poised to be one of the biggest releases of the year in Indian cinema. (Source: IANS)
