NEW YORK, NY –The big apple takes a colorful dive on May 12th as NYC Holi Hai, the largest open festival of its kind on the east coast, returns to Governors Island with a splash.

From Indian to African and Latin dance forms, “my idea is to bring world dance and music together with colorful festivities of Holi for a unique cultural celebration” says Megha Kalia, founder & producer of the festival, representing NYC Bhangra Dance Company.

Air India, the official event partner, paves way for international talent Devender Pal Singh of the Indian Idol series to present Bollywood music straight from Mumbai. New York-based Shilpa Ananth will present an A.R. Rahman melody after having worked with the legendary composer himself. Finally, an indie-pop singer, song writer & actress further headlines the list of talented musicians performing.

Punjabi drums beats will take over as Megha Kalia leads a dance workshop engaging festival goers to the tunes of an enticing line-up of DJ artists. Indian classical dancers Anisha Muni, Meenakshi & Rajanandhini Balachandran from the Kathak Ensemble & Friends will take the stage with a classical dance to Indian Raga‘s Irish Malhar, blending raag Malhar with an Irish flavor, and Swalla, an interpretation of Jason Derulo’s hit song.

Holi Hai features a tantalizing array of delicious food & drink from local vendors, including start-up food company The Chaat Company and classic North Indian midtown restaurant Bukhara Grill. From Indian street food to American burgers, tacos, and vegan crepes, food lovers will not be disappointed!

A special kids activity area will include using Holi colors in a fun way to create art, along with games for kids of younger ages. NYC Holi Hai is honored to have the Consulate General of India, Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty, as its chief guest for this year’s event.

Although the event is FREE, people are encouraged to RSVP by visiting  https://www.nycholi.com/.
