Lagarde, who was recently elected to a second five-year term, is the first woman to lead the IMF. Before joining the fund, she served as France’s Minister of Finance, where she played an instrumental role guiding the G20 nations through the financial crisis.

The Compton Lecture Series, which is named after former MIT president Karl Taylor Compton, was established in order to bring leaders to campus who are noted for their universality of thought and their influence on human values.
