CAMBRIDGE, MA. – On Friday, March 4th, MIT’s Compton Lecture Series will welcome Madame Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to deliver the lecture: “Demographic Change and Economic Well-Being: The Role of Fiscal Policy.” The event, which will take place at 4 PM in MIT’s Kresge Auditorium, will also include a conversation between Lagarde and MIT President L. Rafael Reif.
Lagarde, who was recently elected to a second five-year term, is the first woman to lead the IMF. Before joining the fund, she served as France’s Minister of Finance, where she played an instrumental role guiding the G20 nations through the financial crisis.
The Compton Lecture Series, which is named after former MIT president Karl Taylor Compton, was established in order to bring leaders to campus who are noted for their universality of thought and their influence on human values. Since its inception in 1957, the series has welcomed a range of speakers, including Senator Edward M. Kennedy, journalist Tom Brokaw and Valerie Jarrett, special assistant to President Barack Obama.
