Govinda gets two weeks to apologise in a slapping incident
New Delhi–The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave film star Govinda two weeks’ time to meet Santosh Bateshwar Ray to tender an apology and settle the dispute over an alleged 2009 slapping incident. Govinda’s lawyer Sangeeta Kumar told a bench of Justice V. Gopala Gowda and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit that the cine star would meet Ray to settle the dispute outside the court as desired by the court.

As the bench told her that her client should settle the issue outside the court, she undertook that he would act as desired by the court. The court then adjourned the matter by two weeks. It had on November 30, 2015, asked Govinda to settle the dispute with Ray with an apology.

The court gave Govinda two week’s time as counsel Jatin Zaveri appearing for Ray told it that the actor has not complied with the November 30 order, and said that he be given two weeks’ time to comply, failing which the court should hear and decide the matter on its merits. During the November 30 hearing, the court had told Govinda: “You are a big hero, show your big heart (and apologise and settle the matter).”

Yash Raj Films to back game on SRK’s ‘Fan’
Mumbai, Feb 9 (IANS) Production banner Yash Raj Films is collaborating with online game portal 99Games for an official game for superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film “Fan”. Titled “FAN: The Game”, the game revolves around the journey of an ardent fan and the challenges he encounters in trying to meet the superstar he idolises.

In the game, fans can connect with Shah Rukh at his residence Mannat, in a film studio, in a cinema hall or at a mall and prove their love for the superstar. “We are very thrilled to launch our product “FAN: The Game” in partnership with 99Games. We believe that the gamers will really enjoy the gameplay that boasts of multiple levels and offers the opportunity to collect exciting gratifications,” Manan Mehta, vice-president of marketing and merchandise at Yash Raj Films, said in a statement.

Talking about the game and his association with Yash Raj Films, Rohith Bhat, chief executive officer of 99Games, said: “The game will have avenues for players to connect with the superstar and a chance to come face-to-face with their idol in real life.” “Fan”, which also stars Waluscha De Sousa, Illeana D’Cruz and Shriya Pilgaonkar among others, is slated to release this year.

Mumbai–Preity Zinta is miffed with all the rumours surrounding her impending marriage plans. The actress says she is fed up of “manufactured news”, adding that there is no need for any speculation as she will make an announcement when she has to.

It seems the marriage gossip is not leaving Preity’s side. Last year, there were reports that the “Soldier” actress will be tying the knot with her rumoured American beau Gene Goodenough in January, and now there are rumours suggesting that the actress will be getting hitched on Valentine’s Day, which falls on February 14.

“Really? I think you should shut down your paper or carry real news! I am actually fed up of manufactured news. Can you leave my marriage announcement to me please after all its my life till then leave me alone,” Preity tweeted. The actress also blamed media for spreading fictitious stories.

Multiple-city Oscar Film Festival from February 19
New Delhi– Hollywood is dealing with the Oscar mania along with the diversity row, and it’s time to let the Oscar fever seep into the nation. From Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” to Jennifer Lawrence’s “Joy”, a multiplex theatre chain is organising The Oscar Film Festival in Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune and Mumbai from February 19. INOX Leisure Ltd will screen the best of Oscar-nominated films in a set time slot for 14 days, read a statement.

Movies like “The Revenant” and “Spotlight” will debut in India and will be showcased at the INOX Oscar Film Festival. Other films to be screened include “Room”, “The Danish Girl” and “The Hateful Eight” amongst others. “The Oscars represent excellence in the world of cinema and our guests will enjoy the 14 day extravaganza. We look forward to showcasing the films that have been nominated for this year’s Oscars and am sure that our guests will enjoy watching them,” said Alok Tandon, CEO of INOX Leisure.

To be hosted by Chris Rock, the 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Madhur Bhandarkar to get honorary doctorate
Mumbai– National Award winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar will be conferred with an honorary Doctorate in Arts by Ahmedabad-based Rai University to appreciate his contribution to the Indian cinema and for laying a pitch for women-centric films.

Best known for his films like “Chandni Bar”, “Page 3”, “Traffic Signal” and “Fashion”, Bhandarkar will be given the honour at the annual convocation ceremony of the educational institute on Saturday, read a statement. Bhandarkar is known for showcasing real life issues through his films. He says that such appreciation gives him a push to do better.

Bhandarkar said: “I owe my success and recognition to the movies I have made and the whole team behind it. These recognitions are also a responsibility that push you to do better.” In an official statement, a Rai University spokesperson said: “We want to honour the hard work and commitment of the director who hails from a middle class, non-filmy background and has carved a unique space for his genre of cinema through his sheer perseverance and focus.”
