U.S. Embassy Highlights Trump’s Praise for Modi Amid Ongoing West Asia Tensions

NEW DELHI — The U.S. Embassy in India on Friday spotlighted remarks by President Donald Trump praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a leader who “gets things done,” while expressing confidence in stronger ties between the two countries.
The embassy shared Trump’s comments on social media, drawing attention for both its timing and message as tensions continue to escalate in West Asia.
“Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most,” Trump said.
The remarks follow a recent phone call between the two leaders earlier this week, during which the situation in West Asia was a key focus.
“Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability,” Modi said in a post on X.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region, with Modi underscoring the global significance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure for international trade.
They also agreed to remain in close contact on efforts to ensure regional security and protect key shipping routes.
The conversation comes against the backdrop of escalating tensions in West Asia following late-February strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which were followed by retaliatory drone and missile attacks by Tehran targeting U.S. and Israeli interests across the region.
The conflict has heightened uncertainty in global markets, particularly in energy sectors sensitive to developments in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for oil shipments.
Trump and Modi have maintained a high-profile relationship in recent years, marked by frequent engagement, large public events, and cooperation across trade, defense, and broader strategic initiatives.
Officials say the continued engagement reflects a deepening partnership between the two countries, with both sides signaling a commitment to strengthening ties despite ongoing global challenges. (Source: IANS)
