A.R. Rahman set to compose music for Mani Ratnam’s next film starring Vijay Sethupathi

CHENNAI, India — Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman is set to score the music for filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s upcoming project starring Vijay Sethupathi, according to industry sources, reaffirming one of Indian cinema’s most enduring creative collaborations.

While Rahman’s involvement had been widely expected, recent speculation on social media suggested that Mani Ratnam might bring in younger composer Sai Abhyankkar for the film. However, sources close to the production have confirmed that Rahman will helm the music.

Rahman and Mani Ratnam share a long-standing partnership that dates back to the 1992 film “Roja,” a landmark project that helped redefine Indian film music. Since then, the duo has collaborated on numerous acclaimed films.

Sources indicate that Rahman may have already composed at least one track for the yet-to-be-titled film, which is being described as a romantic entertainer.

The project, produced under Mani Ratnam’s banner Madras Talkies, is expected to begin filming later this year, with unconfirmed reports pointing to a possible start date in July.

Although the full cast and crew have not been officially announced, the film is rumored to feature Sai Pallavi as the female lead opposite Vijay Sethupathi.

Sethupathi, who has previously worked with Mani Ratnam on “Chekka Chivantha Vaanam,” recently spoke about the director’s working style in an interview, describing him as fast-paced and detail-oriented. He said he had asked the director for time to go through the script together to better understand the expectations for his role.

The upcoming film marks another collaboration between Sethupathi and Mani Ratnam, raising expectations among fans and industry observers alike. (Source: IANS)
