BOSTON– American India Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of India’s underprivileged, has launched a three-pronged Emergency Response Strategy Phase 2 to address India’s COVID-19 crisis.
“This second wave sent more and more sick people into a fragile health care system critically short of hospital beds and oxygen,” American India Foundation, known as AIF, said in a statement. “Delhi alone needs 5,000 new hospital beds immediately. The images from India are difficult to witness, such as those of Indians with empty oxygen cylinders crowding refilling facilities, hoping to save loved ones in the hospital.”
Working with its partners, hospitals and governments, AIF’s three-pronged Emergency Response Strategy Phase 2 is quickly pivoting its programming to COVID relief efforts in an effort to save lives.
AIF team has prepared interventions for this year’s relief work that vary slightly from last year, including:
- Securing oxygen concentrators, ventilators, PPE, and pulse oximeters for hospitals and frontline healthcare workers
- Setting up portable hospitals in areas that have an acute need of infrastructure
- Sourcing cold-storage equipment to decentralize vaccine administration
- Raising awareness about vaccinations and COVID-19 prevention tactics
- Mitigating nutrition gaps due to COVID-19 with women and children.
“We are inviting other organizations/groups/individuals to help us through this crisis,” AIS statement said. “AIF could certainly use your support and we need to act NOW.”
AIF is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth. AIF does this through high impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods, because poverty is multidimensional. AIF’s unique value proposition is its broad engagement between communities, civil society, and expertise, thereby building a lasting bridge between the United States and India. With offices in New York and California, twelve chapters across the U.S., and India operations headquartered in Delhi NCR, AIF has impacted 6.7 million lives across 26 states of India.
