Got thrown out of films without reason: Shilpa Shetty

Mumbai– Actress-entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty Kundra says her journey in the Hindi film industry was not an easy ride as producers threw her out of their films without giving any reasons.

In a post shared on the official Humans of Bombay Instagram page, Shilpa, who made her debut in Bollywood with “Baazigar” in 1993, opened up about her journey and struggles she faced in the Hindi film industry.

“I was this dark, tall and lanky child who had her life pretty much laid out for her. I’d graduate and work with my dad. Even though in my heart I wanted to do something different, something bigger and better, I never felt like I could. But when I participated in a fashion show, just for fun, I met a photographer who wanted to click my photographs,” she wrote.

Shilpa said it was a “great opportunity” to step out of her comfort zone and that the photographs came out really well, opening up the doors of modelling for her.

“Soon, I got offered my first film. There was no looking back from there, I was going onwards and upwards. But nothing worth having comes easy. I was all of 17 when I entered the industry, I hadn’t seen the world or even understood life. With all the success came scrutiny. I wasn’t ready for it,” she said.

Shilpa said that she did not know how to speak in Hindi and “shuddered at the thought of being in front of the camera.”

“I reached a point where after a few films my career hit a lull. I tried hard but it always felt like I was lagging behind. It’s not easy to be celebrated one moment and ignored the next. I remember there were producers, who without any reason, threw me out of their films,” recollected the actress, who is fit as a fiddle at 43.

She decided to reinvent her herself and hence entered the reality TV show “Celebrity Big Brother 5”, which ended up leaving a “huge impact”.

The TV actress made the admission in an Instagram post she wrote, while sharing a string of photographs with “Isn’t It Romantic” star and her pop-singer husband Nick Jonas on Sunday.

The pictures were clicked at an exclusive after-party the Chopra Jonas couple hosted on Saturday on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival.

Khan partied with the star couple and a slew of supermodels, singers and actors at the gathering put together by luxury Swiss jewellery and watchmaker Chopard.

In her long post, Khan praised Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her encouragement to an upcoming artiste like her. “An unexpected invitation by a world star.. personally. After I gained consciousness and prepared myself to finally make it, I was still an outsider, but only until you arrived. You didn’t need to, but still never left my hand for a second, introduced me to the people I probably wouldn’t have met and I felt as if all the achievements of my little career happening in fast forward as you present me as a star to each one of them,” she wrote.

Khan said Priyanka Chopra Jonas appreciated her debut film “Lines”, her hard work and the risks she had taken in her career choices.

“Yes, I have taken risks and I am still taking them, where I almost have everything in my television career — position, power, money… But someone has to start somewhere I believe. I always wanted to break the stereotypes and prove it to the world that television actors have it all. Give us the opportunity, our fair share and we will kill it. Not easy at all I know. But yeah, I will keep trying, keep working hard and make it possible,” Khan said.
