Sridevi posthumously honoured at 71st Cannes Film Festival

Cannes– Iconic actress Sridevi was posthumously honoured at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who received the award on her behalf, says he felt honoured.


Sridevi was honoured with the TITAN Reginald F. Lewis Film Icon Award, which celebrates women of the film industry all over the world and also salutes the multicultural impact on the film industry.

Ghai shared a few photographs of himself while receiving the award on Twitter and captioned it: “It was honour to receive the award on behalf of legend Sridevi Kapoor at Cannes Film Festival yesterday for her outstanding contribution in Indian cinema and shared my experience with impeccable inimitable actor to western audience hosted by Titan Reginald F. Lewis film honours.”

Sridevi’s producer husband Boney Kapoor said he and his daughters Janhvi and Khushi were overwhelmed with the recognition, tributes and love that the actress has been showered with.

“Her work and life has touched so many hearts across the world and she has been an inspiration to millions. She will live forever, thanks to her body of work,” Boney said in a statement.

Sridevi in February died due to accidental drowning in a Dubai hotel. She was feted with a posthumous National Film Award for Best Actress in appreciation of her performance in her last released film “Mom”.

Madhuri Dixit was Siddharth Anand’s first crush

Mumbai– Filmmaker Siddharth Anand says he loves actress Madhuri Dixit Nene for the charm she adds to her performance.

The filmmaker confessed about his crush when the actress came on the sets of “Dance India Dance Li’l Masters”. She came to promote her forthcoming film “Bucket List”, read a statement to IANS.

“I am a huge fan of Madhuri. I fell in love with her charm and acting when I watched ‘Dil’ at Bandra talkies. And after watching ‘Tezaab’, I had finally found my favourite actor,” said Anand, who judges the reality show.

“I would watch the movie multiple times just to watch and admire her. I took piano classes to learn how to play the song ‘Kehdo ke tum ho meri’ which till date remains my favourite song. Being a director, I am still not very well versed with the music of my own films. But I am confident that I can play this song correctly on a piano and even sing along.”

Madhuri thanked the director for the praise.

The episode with the actor will air on Saturday and Sunday on Zee TV.

Salman Khan’s energy, passion are ‘contagious’

Mumbai– Choreographer Mudassar Khan, who worked with Salman Khan for the show “Dus Ka Dum”, says the superstar is fun to work with and his energy and passion are contagious.

Salman will soon host the game show “Dus Ka Dum”, which is making a comeback on Sony Entertainment Television after nine years.

The star shot for the special music video which is a reprised version of the title track sung by Mika Singh. The video has been choreographed by Mudassar Khan.

“When I was approached for this music video, I wasn’t going to let go of an opportunity to work with Salman. The song is quite catchy and the way Salman has grooved to the beats is something to watch out for,” Mudassar said in a statement.

“This time around, the audience will get to see the signature step of ‘Dus Ka Dum’ and I am sure it will catch on as well. Salman is the most fun person to work with and his energy and passion is contagious.”

‘Animal lover’ Ishita turns vegetarian

Mumbai– Actress Ishita Dutta says she has decided to stop eating meat as she is an animal lover.

“Becoming a vegetarian has been a thought that crossed my mind a lot of times in the last few years. One day, I was randomly scrolling through PETA videos just out of my love and concern for dogs.

“And I happened to come across some videos that really bothered me. I couldn’t even watch the end and I can’t claim to be an animal lover if I did not do my bit. So I stopped,” Ishita said in a statement.

Was it difficult to give up her food habits?

“It hasn’t been as difficult as people would expect it to be and not as easy as it is a major lifestyle change. Maybe looking at the bigger picture, things seem easier,” she said.

On the work front, Ishita will soon be seen in a movie which will mark the debut of actress Dimple Kapadia’s nephew Karan Kapadia.

Disha Patani a fan of Priyanka Chopra

Mumbai– Actress Disha Patani, who will share screen space with Priyanka Chopra in the upcoming film “Bharat”, says she is a big fan of the actor.

Priyanka on Friday welcomed Disha on board for the film.

“Welcome Disha Patani to ‘Bharat’. This is lovely! Bareilly is representing!” she tweeted.

Disha replied: “Thank you so much. I am your biggest fan and I am so so excited to be a part of it, Big hug. Can’t wait.”

The film, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, features superstar Salman Khan. It is slated for an Eid release in 2019.

“Bharat” is an official adaptation of a 2014 South Korean film “Ode to My Father”. It is produced by Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Production Pvt Ltd and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput turns entrepreneur

New Delhi– Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, in partnership with serial entrepreneur Varun Mathur, has made his entrepreneurial debut with the launch of Innsaei Ventures Pvt Ltd.

Innsaei, an ancient Icelandic word for intuition, is a first-of-its-kind venture that is working on the convergence of intellectual property and emerging technologies.

Mumbai– Indian designer Manish Malhotra feels Prince Harry would look dapper in a slim-cut bandhgala.

Prince Harry will marry actress Meghan Markle on Saturday.

If Malhotra had to dress the couple, what would he have picked?

“I would style Meghan in one of my signature Summer Couture silhouettes – a gown with a fitted, long-sleeved top billowing out into layers of soft silk and continuing into a trail, all embellished with condensed pearl embroidery,” Malhotra said on the sidelines of shooting for “Vh1 Inside Access”.

“I would love to see Harry in a slim-cut bandhgala,” he added.

The couple will exchange vows at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday. The wedding will beam on Indian television deferred live on Colors Infinity.

I’m a Salman Khan fan: Upen Patel

Mumbai– Model-actor Upen Patel says he is a Salman Khan fan and loved the trailer of the superstar’s upcoming film “Race 3”.

“I loved the trailer of ‘Race 3’. I am a Salman Khan Fan, so obviously I loved it. I am also a fan of ‘Race 3’ and the trailer is looking very stylish with lots of action and lots of one-liners. So, I really enjoyed it,” Upen said on the sidelines of the Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2018 here on Thursday.

An avid traveller, Upen says he loves India the most.

On his favourite travel destination, he said: “I like to travel to London as my family is there and every time I get a chance, I try and visit London. But other than London, I love Dubai. It is beautiful and close to India. But honestly I love India the most. India is my favourite.”

The “Namastey London” actor is an eligible bachelor in Bollywood. But when asked if he would take an actress to his favourite travel destination and who would it be, Upen said: “Even If I could take an actress with me, I think I won’t take any. I would take my mother, you know… I would take my family, why would I want to take an actress?”

Sonali Bendre hopes to keep love for reading alive

Mumbai– Actress Sonali Bendre says one often forgets the joy of reading in day-to-day life, and hopes to come up with several initiatives to keep the love for reading alive.

The actress backed one such initiative on Wednesday by hosting the India Premiere of Jane Fonda’s “Book Club”.

The premiere, hosted in association with Sonali Bendre and her popular online initiative Sonali’s Book Club (SBC), was a session on the importance of books, SBC community and expectations from the film.

“With the daily commotion of life, one often forgets the joy something as simple as reading can bring. With these initiatives, we hope to keep the love for reading alive,” Sonali said in a statement to IANS.

“‘Book Club’ is such a great take on the joys Book Clubs can bring and the friendships that are developed through them. There was no second thought when it came to being a part of the India premiere and hosting this session, in association with PVR Pictures, which has been wonderful in putting this evening together. I’m looking forward to bringing you many more such initiatives from SBC,” she added.

In the film, Diane Keaton (Diane), Fonda (Vivian), Candice Bergen (Sharon) and Mary Steenburgen (Carol) play successful older women getting back into the dating world, thanks to the erotic thriller trilogy — “Fifty Shades of Grey”. The film is being brought to India by PVR Pictures.

Also starring Richard Dreyfuss, Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, Ed Begley Jr. and Wallace Shawn, the film is scheduled to open on May 25.

Big B delighted to have worked with Smita Patil

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he is delighted to have worked with late veteran actors Smita Patil and Om Prakash.

Amitabh tweeted a few photographs of himself along with Smita and Om Prakash from the film “Sharaabi”.

“The gracious Smita Patil in a small cameo for ‘Sharaabi’ and the effervescent Om Prakashji, a delight to have worked with them. They are no more with us but their legacy lives on,” he captioned the image.

Directed by Prakash Mehra, the 1984 drama film, told the story about of a spoilt but kind-hearted son of an extremely rich and uncaring father who heads down the path of alcoholism and depression. (IANS)
