Sonakshi’s ‘Akira’ mints over Rs 10 crore in two days
Mumbai–Actress Sonakshi Sinha’s action-packed avatar in “Akira” is having a steady run at the box-office. The film has amassed Rs 10.45 crore in two days of its release.
Directed by filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss, “Akira” released on Friday.
According to a statement released by film’s publicist, “Akira” managed to put up a good day two with a slight jump.
“The film has collected Rs 5.30 crore on day two. On the first day, the film collected Rs 5.15 crore. The total collection of the film so far is Rs 10.45 crore,” the statement read.
Presented by Fox Star Studios, “Akira” brought Sonakshi and Murugadoss together once again. He had previously directed Sonakshi in the film “Holiday”, which was a success at the box office.
“Akira” sees Sonakshi’s character coming to Mumbai from Jodhpur, where she gets into a tiff with the goons of the college she enrolls in. The story is about her fight to come out of a case, where the college goons, a corrupt policemen played by Anurag Kashyap and another played by Konkona Sen Sharma, play crucial components.
Rishi Kapoor turns 64, B-Town showers good wishes on him
Mumbai– Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor turned 64 on Sunday, and his friends and colleagues from the Hindi film industry have wished him a year full of love and happiness.
And the celebrities also had a special message for the “Bobby” star — keep on inspiring.
The actor has been part of the industry for over four decades and has given hits like “Mera Naam Joker”, “Bobby”, “Khel Khel Mein”, “Hum Kisise Kum Naheen”, “Karz” and “Prem Rog”.
The actor was last seen on screen in the “Kapoor & Sons”.

‘Kaabil’ shoot not on hold, says Yami
Mumbai– Actress Yami Gautam says the shooting of her upcoming film “Kaabil”, starring Hrithik Roshan, hasn’t been put on hold.
According to a report, the film has been put on hold due to Hrithik’s ill health.
Yami cleared the air by saying: “Not at all. It’s absolutely not true. In fact, the film’s shoot is going really well. We have just wrapped up a song shoot. Moreover, as I have always said it’s amazing to work with Hrithik, especially when we are shooting a dance sequence with him.”
“I can’t wait for all of you to watch it,” the actress said at the launch of Aldo Fall’16 collection.
The “Vicky Donor” actress also shared her experience of working with the “Bang Bang!” star.
“I can write an entire thesis on what I’ve learnt from him. To sum it up, he is a dream co-actor to work with. When I came to know that I have to do a dance sequence with him, I was nervous. After all, he is Hrithik Roshan.”
“The reason behind Hrithik being the best dancer is that he never takes his work for granted. In the entire schedule, I never heard him say ‘It’s easy or I can do it easily’. He is very energetic and always ready to learn. He has the ability of reinventing himself.”
Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by his father Rakesh Roshan, the thriller is scheduled for a worldwide release on January 26, 2017.
Richa Chadha joins jury for fest in Japan
Mumbai–Actress Richa Chadha feels honoured to be a part of the jury for Nara International Film Festival.
“I am excited to go to the Nara International Film Festival as a part of the jury. It’s a huge honour because I have been invited by none other than Naomi Kawase (the festival’s director). I became friends with her during Marrakech last year,” Richa, who was a part of the jury for the Marrakech International Film Festival, said in a statement.
“She’s a filmmaker of international repute. Nara is a beautiful historical city and it’s my first time there,” she added.
Richa also shared that she has been lying low because she was working on her fourth big project for the year.
“Besides, visiting this quaint town to watch cinema is a delightful getaway,” she said.
It’s not that Bollywood won’t happen for me: Tannishtha
Lonavla–For actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, who has showcased her acting mettle in offbeat Indian as well as foreign projects, it’s a case of never say never for an out-and-out Bollywood project.
At the Lonavla International Film Festival India (LIFFI), where two of her films — “Rough Book” and the recently released “UnIndian” are being screened — Tannishtha spoke about her projects and plans in a question and answer session.
Asked why she has yet not done a typical Bollywood potboiler yet, she said: “It’s just that when I started, I got work and I kept doing that work. Perhaps, I also didn’t go and ask people for work. A lot of times I was travelling or didn’t have dates… But it’s not like Bollywood will not happen.
“It might happen with roles that I can do justice to as an actor and with roles that do justice to my acting.”
Having worked in films like “Brick Lane”, “Road, Movie”, “Dekhi Indian Circus”, “Anna Karenina”, “Gulab Gang”, “Angry Indian Goddesses” and more, she says she has seen exciting times in her career with different roles in movies of varied genres.
“I’ve worked in British, French, American films, Hindi films and Marathi too…Now I also have a biopic in hand. So, it’s great,” said the acclaimed actress, who is doing a doing a biopic of the first woman doctor in the country, Dr. Rakhmabai.
Her film “UnIndian”, which featured Australian cricketer Brett Lee, released recently, but her latest release has been “Island City”. “Parched” will release soon.
