Dr. Kavita Navani: Passion for Using Technology in Healthcare

Dr. Kavita Navani was passionate about being a doctor since her childhood. When she was ten years old, her father became very ill in the small Indian town where her family lived; and then she promised herself that she would become a doctor to take care of others.

After completing my MBBS and MD in OB-GYN in India, Navani decided to come to the United States for further studies. ” After finishing training in Internal Medicine at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA, she has enjoyed taking care of families for the last 20 years in Central Massachusetts.

In addition to being a physician, Navani is passionate about the use of technology in healthcare and its impact on improving the health of the individual. She was instrumental in starting to use electronic medical records back in 1999. She helped shape the medical side of what is now one of the top electronic health record in the country by giving her valuable feedback and direction. The company is Westborough, MA-based eClinicalworks.

INDIA New England News: Please tell our readers about your work and what you enjoy most about it?
Dr. Kavita Navani: I am a primary care physician. I enjoy treating patients when they are sick, and I like the fact that I can make a difference in someone’s life in improving their overall health. I also am passionate about the use of technology in healthcare and its impact on improving the health of the individual.

INE: To which charitable, community and professional group do you belong and why?
KN: India Society of Worcester(ISW), Physician Volunteer at Free Health Stop, Ekal Vidyalaya – improving education in rural India, and Akshaya Patra – improving education and nutrition in children in India.

INE: What are you hobbies and interests?
KN: Traveling, cooking, spending time with family, and interior decorating.

INE: In what way you feel you have most positively influenced or served the local community and your company/organization and professional field?
KN: Being a primary care physician in Clinton, MA, for 20 years, being associated with ISW and the free health clinic to provide medical care to those without insurance.

KN: Event planning.

KN: Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat, Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee, and Robin Cook Series.
