WALTHAM, MA– Kumkum Pareek Malik, a senior clinical psychologist licensed in Massachusetts, with over twenty-eight years of clinical experience, will conduct a workshop on “Motherhood, Emotional Well-Being and Mental Health” at the upcoming free Mega Health & Wellness Expo on April 20 at the Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, MA.
“Motherhood is hard work, it is constant work, and it is invisible work. This work requires time, physical energy as well as emotional intelligence. Most women enter this stage of their life with almost no idea of their journey, except to think that it will be fulfilling and rewarding,” said Malik. “In reality, motherhood is a very complex and demanding journey, with many unexpected emotions. These emotions often depart from what society as well as the mother herself expects Motherhood to be.”
Malik specializes in motherhood, and maintains offices in Wellesley and Norfolk, Massachusetts. Additionally, she is a published author, skilled at designing workshops, and gives back to society through workshops and affiliations with non-profit organizations. Her education and training include Fellow, Harvard Medical School at Cambridge Hospital, Ed.M at The Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Doctorate at The Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. She obtained her undergraduate and one of her two master’s degrees at Delhi University, India.
“Guilt, critical self-judgment, anger and worry often result, no matter how hard a mother works on behalf of her children,” Malik said. “This talk will share research and clinical case examples that will highlight various aspects of the journey of motherhood.”
Malik’s workshops include topics related to motherhood, topics on meditative relaxation and mind-body healing, as well as aspects of journaling for therapeutic benefit. Her pro bono work extends to organizations that support women, such as Saheli, the oldest such Indian American organization in Massachusetts. She is also a pro bono provider of services to writer-mothers, in her capacity as consultant to AROHO (A Room of Her Own), a non-profit dedicated to supporting women writers.
Words from the Chair of Health & Wellness Expo:
The Health & Wellness Expo is chaired by Dr, Manju Sheth and organized by INDIA New England News. It is a free event for the community and will be held on April 20, 2014 at Burlington Marriott in Burlington, MA. Dr. Sheth is a Board certified internist at Lahey Health and President of Indian Medical Association of New England 2013. She is very dedicated to women’s causes and education of community in health related issues, especially those specific to South Asian population.
Says Dr. Sheth: “I have always felt that while treatment can be specific to a specialty of medicine, healing is a collaborative effort with all health care providers, including alternative medicine. It also involves tapping into power within ourselves which will be the focus of our talk on mind and body medicine led by Dr. Sanjiv Chopra. We are honored to bring some of the best experts in traditional medicine who will talk about common medical problems with updates in diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. The talks will be conducted by a team of excellent moderators. Our goal in this Expo is also to educate people about optimum health which again is a collaborative effort. We are pleased to bring experts in Indian diet, skin care, yoga, stress management, fitness and meditation. We have also included an important segment on dental health. We are very thankful to the community for their wholehearted support in making our first Mega Health Expo last year such a huge success and are planning to make this an yearly tradition in New England.”
