Pratham’s Boston Gala Raises Over $500,000 for the Education of India’s Underprivileged Children

BOSTON—The annual Boston gala of Pratham raised more than a half million dollars for education of India’s underprivileged children. Attended by 260 people, the gala was held on Sept. 21 at Boston’s posh Mandarin Oriental Boston.

“This is our city’s annual gala, and every year we see an increase in participation and enthusiasm for Pratham’s innovative programs,” said Pratima Abichandani, president of the Pratham Boston Chapter. “We are humbled by the generosity and support shown by everyone who came together and our corporate sponsors.”

In 2017, Pratham’s Boston gala had raised about $300,000. Held last month, 2018 gala was the 11th annual fundraiser by the Boston chapter of Pratham USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing quality education to India’s underprivileged children.

“We have a long way to go before Pratham achieves its mission of ‘every child in school and learning well’ and we are looking forward to the continued support from our community until we achieve that,” Abichandani.

Established in the slums of Mumbai in 1995, Pratham is now one of India’s largest non-governmental education organizations, having affected the lives of more than 50 million underprivileged children in the past two decades. To achieve its mission of “every child in school and learning well,” Pratham develops practical solutions to address gaps in the education system and works in collaboration with India’s governments, communities, educators and industry to increase learning outcomes and influence education policy.
