LOWELL, MA—Dharma Center of America (DCA) opens a new community service center on Merrimack Street in Lowell, MA, on Sunday. The center will provide a food pantry, tutoring services, and yoga classes, all at no cost to the public.

DCA is hosting the inauguration ceremony on January 15, 2017 at the Center location, 144 Merrimack Street from 10:30-11:30 AM.

DCA is powered by volunteers, who are professionals in fields such as technology, finance, education, medical/pharmaceutical, and consulting. Each volunteer has been active in community service for more than 15 years in Massachusetts. The idea of opening a food pantry in Lowell was a result of several months of research and communication with city and town officials in nine cities in the greater Boston area. Given the rich diversity of the community in Lowell, pressing need for filling the food pantry gap, and serious demand for after school tutoring services, the decision to choose the city of Lowell was well justified.

“Nutritious food is a basic right of all human beings.,” said the President of DCA, Suresh K. Jain, in a statement. “Along with providing nutritious food, children of the patrons should be provided tutoring so that they can achieve educational success and eventually become independent.”

DCA will operate in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. On January 15th, the ceremony will begin with  light breakfast and the auspicious lighting of a lamp by several dignitaries from the Lowell area, including Mayor Kennedy and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Khelfaoui.

Dharma Center of America DCA is a community service organization with a pending application for 501(C)(3) non-profit status. DCA’s purpose in the Lowell area is to provide food pantry, tutoring and yoga services to the community without cost in order to ensure all residents who need nutritious food and healthy lifestyle have access to it and their children who need educational services beyond the school day have access to free tutoring.
