Shrewsbury, MA –With the renovation and expansion of the library building nearly complete, programs and services of the Shrewsbury Public library will soon be moving back to 609 Main Street.
To begin the move process, the temporary library at 214 Lake Street will close at 5:00pm on Saturday August 13. The library will remain closed for three weeks, during which time the collection of over 130,000 will be moved and reintegrated, information technology systems will be finalized and staff will prepare for starting services and programs at the “new” library.
Extended due dates have been provided on all items checked out in the last month, so that no items will be due until after the library reopens. Patrons are asked to hold all returns until Tuesday September 6 if possible, or return at other public libraries in adjacent communities.
All holds and interlibrary loans will automatically be shipped to Northborough Free Library at 34 Main Street during the period we are closed. Northborough Library is open Monday 12-8:30, Tues & Wednesday 9:30-8:30 and Thursday Friday & Saturday 9:30-5. If a requested item has not already been placed in transit, patrons can select another “pick up library” of their choice, through their personal CWMARS accounts. Shrewsbury librarians can assist with this process by phone.
During the closed period the library will have a call center in place to assist patrons with general questions, booking of museum passes and more. The call center will be open Monday through Friday, between the hours 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Museum passes may be picked up and returned at Town Hall during the period the library is closed. No returns of books or other library materials will be accepted at this location. (Please note: Town Hall is closed on weekends and closes at 4:30 PM each weekday). The call center phone number is 508-842-0081.
The library will reopen for the public on Tuesday September 6 at 9:00am. A grand opening celebration is planned for Wednesday September 21 at 11:00am, to coincide with the Spirit of Shrewsbury festivities. All are invited to attend to attend
